New Yorker Response

Digital Media is affecting the television industry but pushing for a shift towards online television series. However, some television stations such as CBS thrive on it sales overseas. These sales account for most of the revenue that the channel thrives on. Licensing deals from cable companies such as Comcast and Verizon Fios help as well. Plus, many shows such as the X-Files or Fringe are paid for by Netflix to stream on their service. Some of the content that Netflix offers would not exist without their first being cable television stations.

The future of television for now at least will be the same way it is now in my opinion. Television channels thrive on advertisement. Whereas Netflix thrives on its subscribers. With their being a need for advertisement, it is doubtful that cable television is going anywhere. However, Marc Andreessen, a capitalist, says "TV in ten years is going to be one hundred per cent streamed. On demand. Internet Protocol. Based on computers and based on software.” He feels television will not exist anymore from a box but rather be streamed.

There is a real possibility that the world could leans toward this some day. However, with there being a constant need for advertising. I doubt that a sudden change such as this will happen any time soon.

Is Wikipedia beneficial?

Websites such as Wikipedia serve as great idea as a reference. Wikipedia is combination of a encyclopedia and a dictionary in one. However, this doesn't mean that it should be used as a primary source. Wikipedia should rather be used as a secondary source. Why? because this information is readily available to everyone and any person could make a change to it.

This is one of the disadvantages of Wikipedia is that it is open to vandalism via trolling or internet harassing. But via crowd-sourcing helps an user control what they write and how to write it. This type of action by moderators on typed material too interact with the user and sway them to write the right thing instead of the wrong thing. This type of encouragement allows for the correct flow of information.

Some ways that could increase participation for Wikipedia users is the spreading the need for knowledge. Maybe a social media campaign with the hashtag #wikispreadsknowledge could get out there on the internet and convince people to get involved. Getting involved would put down the need for trolling and help build the pursuit for knowledge.

ProPublica

ProPublica uses a creative commons license because it wants to share its work with others. Their works being available for republication means it can be built upon because of what the license includes. According to an article on written by Scott Klein and Richard Tofel on  ProPublica titled:Why we use Creative Commons licenses on our stories, "ProPublica’s mission is for our journalism to have impact — that is, for it to spur reform." Propublica wants to make a difference with their writing.
How does this benefit audiences? Because it allows for a greater reach then normal with online articles. It makes an impact on these audiences which can equate to the difference the company wants. This allows users to republish their work while also giving the website credit. Also, users cannot make whole changes to the article. Only some to words within the article can be changed. Only changes in time, location and editorial style can be done. This makes a difference for how both creative commons and ProPublica differ from traditional media.
An example of this is how the website makes money apart from traditional articles. In the same article the authors write, " we see no reason why others should be able to sell our work without sharing the proceeds with us.(Klein and Tofel)"  As long as proceeds are shared than this fine. Whereas, with traditional media, advertising is used with other articles and the money goes back to the backer. This makes it easier for the staff at ProPublica.
ProPublica can be a example for the future of Journalism because it shares profits unlike others where the company wants to keep all the funds for itself. Working together as stated in the article makes it easier on both writers and publishers.

A basic understanding of Diffusion of Innovation in the innovation of Social Media into our daily lives

Diffusion of innovation was a hard concept for me to understand at first. I knew it was the acceptance of new idea or notions into cultures. But how did this apply to my daily everyday life? It can be based on the ever growing use of social media. Social Media has evolved through the spectrum of popularity. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and even Instagram are everywhere. Rather it being on a phone or a computer its constantly being used. Each of these forms of social media is a form of communication. In today's culture, we can get enough of communication. This then leads to the question how are these websites popular and how they are adopted into our lives.

First lets take a look at the method we read about in the article. I have taken the characteristics of innovation and made a formula out of them. The formula is RCCTO and this stands for relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trial ability, and observability. First, we look at what the websites offer us the choice of wanting to sign up for them. Once a person signs up they see if the websites are compatible for them. They try to figure out if they like the layout. Then comes the second step and third steps of understanding the website of and then using it. An example of this would be making statuses on Facebook and then realizing you can respond back to others. The website through trial then becomes a need and is then innovated into our life and we observe the outcomes of using it.

The process of innovation is laid out but how did this diffusion of social media come to be for an individual? This is due to acceptance. Acceptance having do with what other circumstance, This other circumstance is time. In the article, the author says, "diffusion studies seek to classify acceptors in terms of the timing of their acceptance of an item." (Katz, 240) We live in a technological age where the use of social media is prevalent. Through our use of the adoption process and timing does social media become a need and not just an accessory.

A look at a technocracy theological realization.

According to www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/technocracy, Technocracy is a system in which people with a lot of knowledge about science or technology control a society. A better version of this would be, "A society that is controlled by people using technology to succeed." A good example of this is our city of Philadelphia. How do we function? We need transportation, plumbing, enforcement, and the list goes on and on. How are all these functions accomplished? Through technology. Man developed wheels, pipes, and guns. All this technology is used by the inventor to function. But how did this technology come about?

These various forms of technology came through the use of Theology. A belief in a greater being is used as a driving force in the production of technology. All the technology of human beings back then was directed toward good of God. He gave humankind the ability to think therefore what is done is in his glory. A quote from From Tools to Technocracy says, "Theology, not technology, provided people with the authorization for what to do or think." This would eventually lead to a duo Techno-Theological belief system that would be a basis for scientists.

Nikola Tesla once said, "...Every living being is an engine geared to the wheel work of the universe..." Who programmed this engine. Was it God? Was it humankind? It was the sphere of influence that grabbed us and said move forward. Human kind has used technology to evolve to a society where it does rule. But the technology did not take control of us back then or even now. The inventor is in control. The inventor is self aware that technology is a force but humanity is the controlling force. This realization can only be made by one thing. Our mind.
